I’ve already been called for regular jury duty twice since moving to California. Now I’ve been summoned to appear at the Federal courts for jury duty. This isn’t the 3 day jury trail. They want me for an entire month. The month of August. The month I’ll be up in Seattle.
I would have been happy to serve, but they were too late.

Why is there a picture of our burnt-out ATM on this post? That made me laugh! What an idiot that was…

No reason other than it is a cool photo.

A whole month on the grand jury is ridiculous! That’s way more of a time commitment than is reasonable.
Having said that, I’ve served on regular jury duty a couple of times and the grand jury once. The grand jury duty is very interesting work…you hear a non-ending stream of cases all day long. Mostly you’re just rubber-stamping the recommendations of the DA but there are exceptions and occasional witnesses in odd cases. It’s a lot busier and more interesting than the mostly-sitting-around-doing-nothing of regular jury duty. Grand jury duty here is only 1 week though…or maybe it was 2 weeks…it’s been a while.
