Although I would love to take credit for the term ThanksMAS, it already appears in the Urban Dictionary.
A pot-luck dinner celebration of friendship held anytime between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Generally celebrated with a group of friends that will not be together for the more traditional holidays.
My plan all along was to fly back to Columbus for Thanksgiving. Seems all the airlines knew this was my plan as well and they raised the price of all their flights. Not just a little, but a lot. So I looked at the Christmas flight prices and they were equally high. Then I thought about splitting the difference. ThanksMAS!
- $550 – Thanksgiving flight price
- $600 – Christmas flight price
- $193 – ThanksMAS flight price (early-mid December)
I’m sure a lot of families could save quite a bit of money if they were all able to agree tweaking their holiday schedule. If you like this idea, be sure to say Thanks MAS!

Was just doing some research for ideas on our 1st (maybe annual) Thankmas Celebration. I decided to do this to spend time with my childrens’ special someones families, of whom we are semi close to. It does release me somewhat of feeling guilty for wanting my kids, my grandbaby and son-in-law and a future daughter-in-law all to myself for a day during the actual holidays.
I love “big” family. Which, i dont actually have at this point. This, sort of, gives us that also. Thanks for your input.
