Working In My Own Casket

This week The Office had the funniest and saddest quote I think I’ve ever heard.  In the the episode Stress Relief, Stanley Hudson has a heart attack and says this about continuing to work.

I would quit, but I’m too old to find another job and I don’t have enough saved to retire.  I feel like I’m working in my own casket.

How many millions of Americans are working in their own casket?  How many decided not to put money into savings and are now slaving to survive in jobs they detest?

The banks that extended them easy credit are now getting billions in bail out money that will never get repaid.  Meanwhile the majority of these workers continue to honor their obligations, even to these fraudulent institutions.  And unlike our Treasury Secretary Geithner, they pay their taxes.

Sad on so many levels.

How about this: “How many people NEVER HAD ANY MONEY TO SAVE???!!!!”

I’m only 35 and I feel like I work in my own casket already.
I really think I’m just going to give up. I don’t see the point in going on. I am immensely unhappy with my career and I really don’t see a way to get out of it.

@Paul – My only advice is if you don’t have cash is to build skills and network. Good luck man.
